We are very excited to share the news that our firm Collins Blay will merge with MNP, a national Canadian firm, effective November 1, 2018. MNP is a like-minded firm that shares our vision, values and commitment to providing quality service. What really sets MNP apart is how the firm operates. Unlike a model of accounting firms operating independently of each other under the same name, MNP is an entrepreneurial-driven “family” where each region and each office has a vested interest in each other. That really appealed to our partner group.
As you are likely aware, the taxation and accounting world is not getting any less complex. We are continually looking at new ways to help our diverse client base achieve their goals. With this merger, we have the opportunity to merge our resources with those of a national team to be at the forefront of these changing issues. We also wanted to enhance our current service offerings to be able to offer other accounting related services not currently on our menu. MNP serves a wide variety of clients in diverse industries, including all the sectors Collins Blay works with. Joining MNP is a perfect example of how two firms can come together to give our clients the edge they need to stay competitive and overcome current business and industry challenges. By joining MNP we will add more national resources and specialists, more specialized services, and a range of experiences, all of which will help to provide our clients with even greater value in the future. It will also give our excellent team professional opportunities to grow and establish themselves as leaders.
We understand you may have questions about the merger’s effect on the continuity of your relationships with the professionals you know and trust. You can be assured that the team of talented professionals currently working with you will remain in place at our current location here in Kingston and this change will be seamless. With the added talent and industry expertise MNP brings, any new professionals working with you in the future will be an enhancement of the client service we already deliver. While the name will change, our level of service and responsiveness to our clients’ needs will continue and improve. If you have any questions about this transition, please do not hesitate to call at any time.
Although MNP has grown to become the fifth largest national chartered professional accounting and business consulting firm in Canada, it has always been local in its focus since founding in 1958. What we appreciate most about MNP is that even though they have more than 70 offices coast-to-coast across Canada (Vancouver to Halifax), and are considered a large national firm, they have a small-firm culture that will be a great fit for our clients and our team. MNP has also been recognized as one of the 50 Best Employers in Canada by AON Hewitt for 10 consecutive years—and this year celebrates its 60th anniversary. Nearby MNP offices include Ottawa, Kanata, Brockville and Cornwall, as well as offices further southwest, towards Oshawa and Markham.
In addition to tax and accounting expertise, MNP delivers a diverse range of advisory services, including consulting, enterprise risk, corporate finance, valuation and litigation support, succession planning, estate planning, insolvency and restructuring, investigative and forensic accounting, technology solutions, cross-border taxation and much more. These new services and experts will now be available to our clients, and represent a far greater spectrum of professionals than Collins Blay would have been able to provide continuing on our own.

In closing, as partners we feel this decision is a ‘win’ for everyone involved. Great care and diligence has been exercised in coming to this moment, which will bring an end to 38 years of Collins Blay in Kingston. We will never forget where we came from, but we are extremely excited about where we are heading and this new chapter which will begin to unfold next month. We want to thank you for your support and trust in our firm, however long you have known us, and we look forward to having you join us on our new journey.
