Returning to Kingston in 2011 is something I had hoped would happen ever since I graduated from Queen’s in 2002.  I simply fell in love with Kingston during my four years at school and I feel very fortunate to be able to practice something I am passionate about, taxation, in the Limestone City.

I am proud to lead our tax group at Collins Blay where we have 7 skilled tax professionals who provide full service tax solutions that include corporate reorganizations, trust and estate planning, business succession planning, GST/HST, cross-border taxation, partnerships, and many other practice areas.  Continuous learning is something that is lived in our tax group and we believe is of critical importance given the ever-changing nature that is taxation.  I continue share my tax experiences by teaching taxation locally at Queen’s Commerce Program and through the CPA tax In-depth program.  Another core value of our tax group is that we share knowledge throughout our firm so you can be assured that regardless of the professional that you are working with at Collins Blay, you will be presented our full array of tax solutions.

Having a father that ran an accounting firm in Saskatchewan and who specialized in taxation, I learned early on that what I liked most about taxation is being able to help people.  After graduating from Queen’s University I spent 10 years with a national accounting firm in Toronto, where I obtained my CPA, CA and was able to provide tax services to some of our country’s largest companies and an array of global companies.  While in Toronto, I had great tax learning experiences, I did feel disconnected from the owners of the Company that I was serving.  My biggest thrill about moving to Kingston was the opportunity to work one-on-one with owner-managers of robust local companies where I can see firsthand the difference that we make.  While saving our clients tax dollars is always top of mind, often our satisfaction comes from seeing the resolution to complex situations that were causing our client stress.  We always seek tax advantages for our clients, however, we are mindful of the tax laws when presenting tax solutions for our clients.
